E266 Slide Trombone, Tenor in B-flat
Trombone, Prentiss, Boston (1834-37).
Identifying mark(s):
“PRENTISS / BOSTON” is stamped on the bell garland.
Description:
The strut between bell tube and tube exiting from the slide is unusually wide (2.2 cm). An oddly-shaped lyre holder is soldered to the bell behind the bell garland, formed like an elongated S – the bell end consisting of two prongs, between which the lyre would be inserted.

Notes:
This is an early trombone, with a bell garland and a bell only slightly flared.

Total length of tube: 311.4 cm.
Bore at beginning of tuning slide: 1.3 cm.
Bore at end of tuning slide: 1.4 cm.
Bell diameter: 16.3 cm.
Associated Mouthpiece:
This silver, cup-shaped mouthpiece is certainly not original. Length: 7.6 cm.
Rim width: 0.6 cm.
Inner cup diameter: 4.0 cm.
Depth of cup: c. 2.3 cm.
Bore at end: 1.0 cm.
