Description:
This painting is a comparative study of six different piccolos showing instruments made of different materials, having a variety of head joint shapes and materials, and different key work. The following piccolos are the subjects of this painting (listed from top to bottom):

1) Mollenhauer 7-key D-flat piccolo, (Eddy Catalog # 54), c. 1900, with metal head and plastic moulded embouchure plate
2) Anonymous 6-key D-flat piccolo, (Eddy Catalog # 50), late 19thC, with a metal head
3) George Cloos 6-key D-flat piccolo, (Eddy Catalog # 45), c. 1850, in its case, with an ivory head
4) Peloubet 4-key D-flat piccolo, (Eddy Catalog # 30), 1836-81, with a rosewood head
5) Anonymous 1-key C piccolo, (Eddy Catalog #17), late 18th/early 19thC, with a boxwood head
6) Anonymous 6-key B-flat flute, (Eddy Catalog # 51), early 20thC, with a Grenadilla head and unusual turning
