E270 Valve Trombone, Tenor in B-flat
Valve Trombone, Tenor in B-flat, , C.G. Conn (1900-05).
Identifying mark(s):
“MADE BY / C. G. CONN / ELKHART / IND. & / WORCESTER / MASS” is engraved on the bell. “PAT. JUNE / 16(?), 1886” and the serial number: 61436 are engraved on the back of the 2nd valve.
Description:
There are 3 Périnet valves with mother-of-pearl touchpieces at the left of the entry tube. The entry tube, passing bend 1 with the tuning slide and having a water key on the lower bend in the tuning slide, enters into valve 3, but a straight tube bypasses the valves (doubtless a dummy). A clamp ferrule attaches the bell tube to the tube exiting the valves.
Materials:
Brass, silver plate, and gold.
Notes:
The trombone is in good condition and has a beautifully engraved bell.
Measurements:
Total length of tube: 266.4 cm.

Identifying mark(s):
“(Trade mark) / PRIMARIA / PREMIATA FABBRICA / FLLI A. M. BOTTALI / MILANO / (ITALIA) / (star) / (in cartouche: MARCA / FERDO ROTH)” is on the bell.
Description:
There are 3 mechanical rotary valves, side action, with round, mother-of-pearl touchpieces.
Materials:
Brass.
Notes:
There is doubt as to whether the tuning slide is original or that the entry tube with the valve assembly belongs to the bell. The strut-plates and the ornaments on the struts are shaped alike, and perhaps both parts are Bottali parts, but the tube exiting from the valves does not fit the end of the bell tube. Doubting the singularity of the instrument, the length measurement might not be significant.
Measurements:
Total length of tube: 254.6 cm.
Bore at the beginning of tuning slide: 1.25 cm.
Bore at valve-slide 3: 1.3 cm.
Bore at the end of the exit tube: 1.1 cm.
